FAQ

Do I need an appointment for a Check Engine Light Diagnosis?

Not necessarily, you are always welcome to drop your vehicle off with our Service Department for a check engine light but if we are busy it might take a couple days before we are able to get to it. If you set up an appointment with us we will be able to get started on it more quickly. Appointments with the Service Department can be made online or by phone .

What kind of warranty comes with an engine repair from Midway Ford?

All repairs made at Midway Ford using Motorcraft or Ford Parts come with the 2-year/unlimited-mileage Ford Service Parts Warranty . A greater SPW coverage remains on parts with unique warranty coverage including sheet metal, gas engine and transmission assemblies, diesel engine assemblies and more.**

What if I pay for diagnosis but decline the repair?

Our diagnosis is good for 90 days after the date of the invoice. So if you pay the $159.95 for diagnosis of a check engine light but decline to have the vehicle repaired, as long as you return within 90 days, you would not have to pay for diagnosis again.

What causes the check engine light to come on?

There are tons of things that can cause the check engine light to come on - from something as simple as a loose gas cap to something as serious as a cracked intake manifold gasket. We recommend you just bring your vehicle to our Service Department so our specialists can determine the cause.

Check Engine Light

I have a warranty but it's not a Ford warranty - can I use it at your dealership for a Check Engine Light Diagnosis?

Yes, we accept almost all after-market warranties. Just make sure to bring the warranty information with you (usually they give you a packet).

Is it OK to drive my vehicle with the check engine light on?

If the check engine light is flashing, you should stop driving immediately and have your vehicle towed to us. A flashing check engine light is a warning that the catalytic converter (very expensive part) is currently being damaged. If the check engine light is not flashing but you are hearing weird noises or the vehicle is driving funny, then we recommend you stop driving and have the vehicle towed. If the check engine light is not flashing, then it should be OK to drive the vehicle but we still recommend bringing it our Service Department so that we can determine the cause.

Don't you guys just run the codes?

No, the codes usually just point the technician in the direction of the underlying issue.

How long does it take to for a Check Engine Light Diagnosis?

Although it usually doesn't take a technician more than a couple of hours to diagnose the cause of the check engine light, we recommend planning on leaving your vehicle with us for at least a day. Taking into account the time it takes to find the required parts and perform the repair, it will usually end up taking at least that much time. Fortunately, we have an on-site Rental Department that offers affordable rental cars and can also provide complimentary loaner vehicles where applicable. See Service Advisor to reserve a vehicle and check if you are eligible for a complimentary loaner vehicle.
